I have this haunting feeling that we are going to have a scary good time this evening ;-) Okay, enough of the Halloween references. However, as I have mentioned that I like to front load my course content, you should see a noticeable reduction in the number of assignments. We will take some time tonight to go over the TaskStream collaborative narratives and discuss the Emerging Technology Rubric. I would like everyone to leave class this evening with a complete NETS-I narrative, which can stand as a sample for you to complete NETS II-V. As this may require some small group meetings with me, I requested that you bring headphones to class so you can work on your Excel assignment as well as becoming certified in a new tool, Symbaloo! "What is Symbaloo?" you ask. Think of it as a mix between iGoogle and Diigo. . .It's a way to house resources, links, and other types of web content, like RSS feeds on one visually interesting page. . .once created, you can also embed a "webmix" into your blogs. Sounds awesome, right? The amazing folks at Symbaloo have generously offered to get your certified for free!Here are the steps:
1. Click Here to sign-up for the certification program. (I will give you the code in class)A few reminders. . . Even if you did not attend class, you need to answer the weekly question. Don't forget to check Twitter and our hashtag #ed422 to keep up on class information.
2. Click Here to access the certification website.
3. Follow the tutorials by row, check out the webinar assignment & take the webinar quiz.
4. Repeat the process until you complete the four tutorials.
5. Take the final exam.
6. Wait for your confirmation email that you have been certified. . .

Lastly, the San Diego Computer Using Educators is having the Fall Conference right here at CSUSM. I mentioned this last week, but I want to remind you again. I would also like to put out a plea for student volunteers. We have over 900 people registered for the event and there is a great need for more volunteers. If you are willing to volunteer for two hours, I would excuse one absence (keeps you from having to write any extra journals). Here is the link to the volunteer website.

I am a preschool teacher and I am leaving my ideal job. However, I would like to have other experiences other than preschool teaching. I would like to teach ESL, be a middle school counselor, be a third grade teacher, and and English teacher.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning, I thought that I wanted to teach at the high school level. When I did some of my high school classroom observations, I could not see myself teaching at that level. Maybe it was because the actual teacher was boring, so that made me bored and uninterested? Not sure...but so far I am leaning towards a younger age. Maybe 1st grade? We will see!
ReplyDeleteHm. Well, I don't really plan on staying in my ideal job for super long. I do want to teach second or third grade, but the I would like to move on to high school English and then finally college English.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal job would be teaching any elementary grade school level. But also I would like to be an ESL teacher in a high school since I had experience such environment, and I love it. I also love counselors' love, so i would like to pursuit for that in the future.
ReplyDeleteI would like to ideally be a Kindergarten teacher. Love Love LOVE Kindergarteners! They are so little but have so much imagination, creativity, and potential. And they're generally all so full of energy ANDDDDD they say the darnest things :)
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be elementary school in general. I just want to work somewhere within an elementary school. Once I start working there I'd like to try teaching all of the grade levels. I don't want to get "comfortable" in my job! I want to create new challenges to keep my job interesting :)
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to work in an alternative school with at-risk students. I really enjoy working with "challenging" adolescents and like being able to view education as the development of the whole individual. I want to help students have positive experiences and feel confident with themselves. My eye is on continuation high schools, but I'm not sure where I'll end up. All I know is that I want the freedom to teach more than just the textbook and test.
ReplyDeleteI would love to teach either 4th or 5th grade. I was observing in a 5th grade class today and the teacher requested that I help with the lesson. I left the classroom with a sense of fulfillment, after just a few hours. I want to feel that everyday. I guess I am on the right track :)
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be something that allows change. I don't want to be teaching the same grade every year, I want to be able to switch around the different elementary levels. I like the younger grades, like 2nd, but I also like the older ones like 4th and 5th, so I feel like if I switch around I wouldn't get bored, and I would also learn a lot more than I would if I were teaching one specific grade.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would either be an Elementary Special Education Teacher OR just a 3rd Grade General Education Teacher. I love elementary school students because there is often so much growth and I know there is not a day that goes by without a child saying something hysterical!
ReplyDeleteWhen I taught preschool I felt like I had the ideal job and I looked forward to going to work every day. Eventually I got tired of unprofessional co-workers and unlivable wages in early childhood education. I felt like there was more out there for me and wanted to finish college. In my preschool classroom, I loved the creativity, being silly with my students and how excited the kids were to learn. I really hope that once I graduate, I will be able to find something with younger elementary kids at a school where I can really be creative and use art, music, and technology every day in the classroom. Having inspiring co-workers and supportive administration would be great too. I know that's probably not reality but that's my dream.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job is traveling around the world, teaching in rural areas and gaining experience in more than just my own culture and language. I have already looked into programs such as the D.O.D.E.A and also the Peace Corps.
ReplyDeleteMy personal goal for my educational career is to teach 2nd grade for 8 years. After having 8 years teaching experience I want to teach Analysis of Functions, it is an advanced High School Math. Math is my favorite and best subject therefore I would love to teach it!
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be to work at Mesa Verde Middle School as a Special Education teacher. My sister worked there and I had such a great experience volunteering there and I know many of the teachers. I love the way they run their school and the Principal is a great support system for the teachers. That would definitely be an ideal situation for me.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be a classroom that is not really a building. I would love to teach in a hut or palapa right on the sand. It would be in Central America, or on a tropical island. It would be in open air, and there would be a lush jungle around us. You could listen to the sound of the crashing waves. We could pick coconuts and drink from them for a snack. Students would have a hunger to learn and live. We would go on beach walks and learn about things right there on the sand. If you can imagine a tropical beach and there being a classroom there, you would find me. :)
ReplyDeleteI want to work with kids in some capacity and am searching for where I fit best. Early childhood education is my passion, so when I get my elementary teaching credential, I would love to stay within k-2. I want to be involved in children's discoveries, and provide opportunities for creativity and exploration to prepare them to be lifelong learners.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be to teach deaf children. I absolutely love American Sign Language and would love to be involved in a classroom where everyone is signing for communication.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would have to by a 3rd grade teacher. I love that age and I think they are still excited to learn. I want to be a positive impact in their life and always remember their elementary teachers. When it is time to get a job I would be happy with any elementary position. I am just excited to get into the classroom and make a difference:)
ReplyDeleteI think my ideal teaching job would be with elementary school kids. I had first decided I wanted to become a teacher when I volunteered in a kindergarten classroom. I love the little kids who say the cutest things and who love coming to class. However if I was not a teacher I think I would want to do something sports related like sports caster or something but I think being a teacher is something I will feel very proud to be apart of!
ReplyDeleteI would love to start out as a high school US history teacher. I just know I am not mentally prepared for high school. I observed the teacher I had for US history today, I can only hope I can be that knowledgeable and enthusiastic for my students when I get to that point. She was so motivating i want to pull out paper and take notes! That is why I enjoy history :)
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be 3rd grade. I like the fact that they think it is cool to raise your hand in class. They also have amazing imaginations and lack bad attitudes (for the most part) which would be one less obstacle in teaching. After doing some observations for my other class, I found out that I really like 4th and 5th grade too...
ReplyDeleteI want to teach elementary school APE (Adapted Physical Education). I have a younger brother with Tetrasomy 18p, so I always knew that I wanted to do something that would help kids like him. Then in high school i got really interested in Anatomy&Physiology and I've always been really active and love working with kids... So I guess you could say its my calling!
ReplyDeleteMy ideal teaching job would be to teach high school students Spanish Literature. I would also like to be some type of ELD teacher at the high school level as well.
ReplyDeleteAll I know at this point in my education and career is that I want to be a teacher in a Special Education classroom...however I know that there are many directions that my career could take from here. I may want to move towards administration or oversight of a special education program. I may want to focus on integration of special needs student into mainstream classrooms. I am open to all of these doors that may open for me and I am looking forward to learning more about where my chosen profession can take me.
