Week 11: Becoming One with Technology

'wat mahathat bangkok' photo (c) 2007, telmo32 - license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.0/As we are approaching our last few assignments, you should have more time to be creative and less time of frantically trying to complete all of your work (well, at least in this class ;-)  Tonight, I am going to cover the all-new mindmapping assignment (previously known as Inspiration).  I am going to give you a lot of freedom to find and use a mindmapping tool to brainstorm how you have met the NETS-T.  Journal 8 has been polished up a bit. . .so I will clarify what the expectations are for this journal.  I am also releasing the final TaskStream assignment, which will not be due until the last night of class.  After this evening, the only new assignment will be the iMovie assignment!  Of course, you have multiple assignments pending and will have a lot of writing to do for TaskStream.  However, my hope is that when class ends on December 8, you will have everything completed for the course. . .It's a lofty goal, but one that I know you are all up to, right? Oh yeah, you should also have some time to work on your Google Sites tonight as well.
Remember that for each of the artifacts that you put on your blog will also be connected to a NETS-T as well as contain a brief description of exactly what the artifact represents.  Doing this as you go makes it a lot less painful.  And don't forget to get your Symbaloo certification completed.  Forward me your email and put your badge on your blog. . .We will use Symbaloo towards the end of the semester where you will showcase all of your hard work in an amazing webmix ;-)
I want to thank all of the students who volunteered at the SDCUE Fall Tech Conference.  I saw Karla, Shayla, and Emily working hard to ensure the attendees had a good experience.  It was a record-setting event in terms of the number of people who attended.  I hope we can continue to have it on our campus for years to come!

  2. I love making connections with students. I really enjoy building relationships with students and staff. I always feel energized after connecting with a student and helping them come back to their assignment. If I can help them feel safe and comfortable at school and with their assignments, I think that they will succeed more often.

The other thing that feeds my spirit is being close to the ocean. This is why I moved back from Scotland, so I can be outside in not-freezing temperatures and enjoy the ocean breeze.

  3. What I do now makes me happy. I am a waitress. With my recent engagement, i have come to see what an impact I have on my customers. That to me is gratifying. I hope that teaching will give me the same feeling. As of now, I left class Tuesday with a smile on my face after helping a young boy, and seeing the impact I had on him in such a short period of time.

  4. What feeds my spirit is very simple. It's ridding horses being around them and just being out at the barn I am able to forget about everything else and just be in my happy place. I know when I have not been able to ride in a while I know when I need barn time cause I can tell by my mood. It is my place where I can escape from everything and can be me and enjoy every moment I am out there. I am a free spirit around horses:)

  6. Music frees my spirit. I can get so absorbed and lost in singing and playing instruments for hours and it will never seem like it's enough. I can forget about the world and just feel satisfied being wrapped up in music <3

  7. I agree with Allison! I also really love being around children. Weekly, I've been going to a math class for 7th and 8th graders and I feel like I've only spent an hour in class, when I've been there for 3 to 4 hours. I love interacting with them and finding out about what they like and enjoy.

  8. Creativity and my preschool students feed my spirit. I love working with my students in their art projects, embracing their creativity. Stepping out and letting them be their own creative self in all ways, dramatically, artistically, etc., is what reminds me that we should be like kids and love and accept one another for who we are, regardless of our differences.

  9. Children feed my spirit. Their innocence and blind love really grounds me and inspires me to be the best I can be as well as live each day to its fullest. I love being in the presence of a child's inner light :)

  10. There just so happens to be a list of 100 things that feed my soul on my blog. He is so right though, it is easy to get caught up in working toward something that you are passionate about. I love being active and finding creative ways to integrate the arts into education. I could stay up night after night developing and preparing lesson plans to help students be more involved in their learning.

  11. The thing that has always fed my spirit has been being creative and artistic. Drawing, painting, and just generally being creative makes me feel centered and happy. When I am in that mode of drawing or making something, I just focus on that thing and everything else just disappears. One thing I enjoy about teaching is that it also allows for creativity.

  12. Simple things feed my spirit.. Like when my little brother gives me a hug and signs "I Love You." And watching my fish tank, of course.

  13. Along with Sharon I personally love arts and crafts. Creating anything artistically appealing excites me. I also love being a part of something bigger than myself. I love going to church and helping out to benefit the community I live in by participating. I love athletics and being a team player, that being said I love my Lacrosse team here at CSUSM and everything about the sport. Education and knowledge of new things feeds my spirit. I absolutely love when I grasp the concept of a new skill or topic. Then more than anything I enjoy passing that knowledge onto others by teaching!!!! <3

  16. I work in a retirement home health center and I love engaging and connecting with the elderly. They have so much wisdom and knowledge to pass on. They always seem so bright, even though their remaining time may be limited. Their positivity and light keeps me grounded with the goals in my life.

I also love working with children. Observing in all of my classroom settings leave me excited and determined to become a classroom teacher. Working with kids truly fulfills me.

  17. What feeds my spirit is being around my friends and family. I am also a major animal lover and so my two recent birthday presents are the most amazing things ever. I also love interacting with people. I currently work part time at Jamba juice and really enjoy getting to talk to customers as well as the many cute kids who come in. I am just a very social person who loves life.

  18. Reading feeds my spirit. I could sit and read an entire book in 3 hours and not realize that three hours has passed. It refreshes my mind when I read of someone's misadventures and it makes me more creative. I also love my gaming, for the same reasons as reading.

  19. There are a couple things that feed my spirit...the first and foremost would be my religion. Going to church, being connected with my community, and being invested in Christianity feeds my spirit. Second, my family. Whenever I need anything, whether it be physically or emotionally, they are always there for a boost.

  20. Family feeds my spirit. Spending time with my family is priceless to me, it keeps me alive. With all the work that I have to do for school its nice to relax and spend time with them although it could never be enough time.

  21. The love that I receive from my friends, family, and husband feed my spirit and keep me always striving to better myself. I also gain a lot of joy by giving to others who are less fortunate.

  22. Learning about everything and anything feeds my spirit. I have a drive for knowledge and along with that, I like to help people that are less fortunate than me. I read the news everyday and it scares me to realize how many problems we have in America. As a teacher, I want to utilize my creativity and knowledge to reform education (as much as I can) so that it doesn't operate as a fast food restaurant or factory that churns out the same product (as Ken Robinson says). People are all so uniquely different and do not learn the same way. Seeing the unique nature of people makes me want to involve myself in helping young children to understand their own potential. Therefore I know teaching will feed my spirit!

  23. Ahh I love this. There are many things that feed my spirit and make me passionate about life in general. But when it comes to education the simplicity of a child's mind feed my spirit. They are young and life doesn't seem to be spinning a million miles per hour in different directions for them, they see life in a different light, they see it as it is, and for me that is comforting in knowing that I too can see the world just a little bit in the way they see it. I'm jealous.
